Thankgiving Economic History

Intellectual honesty is paramount in investing.

“In the fall of 1621, 90 Wampanoag Indians and 52 English colonists gathered for a three-day harvest feast.”  The First Thanksgiving by Elizabeth Armstrong.

In a less romantic version, the hardships were real and the Governor called for a special harvest celebration.  (millsgen)

A sadistic account in which incorrect facts make it propaganda imo:  “The first Thanksgiving Day did occur in the year 1637…Massachusetts Colony Governor, John Winthrop, proclaimed such a “Thanksgiving” to celebrate the safe return of a band of heavily armed hunters…returned from their journey to what is now Mystic, Connecticut where they massacred 700 Pequot Indians. Seven hundred Indians – men, women and children – all murdered.”  Huffington Post

The free market economic explanation:  The Great Thanksgiving Hoax at Mises.
